I received Ciao, tu by Beatrice Masini and Roberto Piumini as an early birthday present from my best friend, Francesca, with a note saying this was the book she remembered most fondly from her teenage years. Thank you, Franci, for this wonderful present!

Ciao, tu ("Hello, you") is an Italian YA book which could almost be called an epistolary novel. Viola, a fifteen-year-old girl, has a crush on her classmate Michele. So she starts writing him messages that she leaves in his backpack. He replies sticking letters for her on the back of the blackboard. At first, he doesn't know who she is , but later figures it out, and a sweet romance ensues.

This book is a short, quick read, but full of those emotions we all felt during our teenage years. France said she was reminded of this book when I told her all about What My Mother Doesn't Know. And in some elementary way, the two books are similar, in that everyone can relate to the feelings of the main characters.
